Caterpillar: Excavator Plant in Victoria, Texas

Type of Contract – Lump Sum/Design Build

Project Summary

Caterpillar

When Clayco got the contract for another Caterpillar project, they wanted to work with us again. So we followed them to Victoria, Texas, which is about 80 miles north of Corpus Christi and about 25 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico.

Caterpillar’s new $200 million excavator plant will triple their capacity of hydraulic excavator production in the United States and create more than 500 hundred jobs.  When Caterpillar announced that they were expanding the construction of the original 850,000 square foot plant by another 200,000 square feet we were hired to again perform all of that site work.  Beyond traditional earth moving, this project included moisture conditioning of 150,000 cubic yards of material and lime stabilization of 225,000 square years of sub-grade.

The word from the CAT execs is that they were “stunned” to see how much was being done to the site when they were there last week.  Great Job guys!!!Email From Clayco Executive.

  • What they are saying…

The time frame at which it takes you (Kelchner) to complete a project is second to none.

Other contractors may be good at the first 90% of the job, but don’t measure up at the final 10%. It’s difficult to get them back, and often there is a lot of cleanup at the end. With Kelchner, I always have access and they follow through on their commitments to clean up.
